A drunk and drugged driver arrested for hitting two women in Bellvei (Tarragona).

The Mossos d’Esquadra have arrested a drunk and drugged driver for running over and seriously injuring two women in Bellvei (Baix Penedès, Tarragona) , the Generalitat Police reported this Tuesday.

The events took place last Friday , around 6:00 p.m., on the Castell de la Muga road in the municipality of Bellvei.

The driver is a 40-year-old resident of the municipality, with a history of drunk driving, whose vehicle went off the road and hit the two women.

The two victims were part of a family group – formed, in addition to themselves, by a man and a minor – who walked correctly along the side of the road.

One of the women had to be evacuated by the Sistema d’Emergències Mèdiques (SEM) by helicopter due to the severity of her injuries and the other also has a serious prognosis.

Positive in cocaine
In the breathalyzer test, the man gave a result of 0.60 milligrams of alcohol per liter of air inhaled – the legal limit for non-professional drivers is 0.25 – and also tested positive for cocaine in the drug test.

For these reasons, he was arrested, although the judge on duty released him the following day on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs; and for gross reckless injuries.
