Individuals affected by Parkinson’s are invited to Par-Con, a free online event taking place on Friday, October 11, and Saturday, October 12, 2024, hosted by Parkinson’s UK.

For the first time, Par-Con will be held in Leeds and streamed online, welcoming all who want to learn more about Parkinson’s. As the fastest-growing neurological condition in the world, Parkinson’s currently has no cure. Every hour, two more people receive a diagnosis, with approximately 153,000 individuals in the UK living with the condition.

The event will feature a diverse array of Parkinson’s specialists, healthcare professionals, and individuals sharing their personal experiences. Designed in collaboration with the Parkinson’s community, Par-Con aims to unite attendees to discuss the latest research, technology, and symptom management. Highlights include:

  • Dave Clark, former Sky Sports presenter and co-host of 2 Parkies in a Pod, interviewing leading researcher Professor Bas Bloem on staying active and the latest insights into living well with Parkinson’s.
  • Kuhan Pushparatnam, his co-host, discussing technology and innovative strategies for managing Parkinson’s, including details from his new app, Parkinson’s ON.
  • Specialist nurse Emma Edwards exploring often-overlooked hidden symptoms, such as mental health and memory loss.
  • Physical activity and creative taster sessions designed to provide guests with new ways to enhance their wellbeing.
  • An expert panel of neurologists and nurses answering questions about Parkinson’s, with no topic off-limits.
  • Community awards hosted by Paul Mayhew-Archer, recognizing those making significant contributions to the Parkinson’s community.

Claire Bale, Associate Director of Research at Parkinson’s UK, stated: “Par-Con is a unique event for the Parkinson’s community, organized by the community itself. We are thrilled to welcome anyone affected by the condition, whether in person or online, regardless of where they are in their Parkinson’s journey. We are excited to have so many outstanding speakers over the two days, sharing their expertise and personal experiences.

“We look forward to providing updates on the latest Parkinson’s research—what is promising and what is achievable, especially if as many people as possible participate. Each individual’s experience is crucial in guiding us toward more effective treatments and enhancing the quality of life for themselves, their loved ones, and the global Parkinson’s community.”
