Darren Jones MP, the newly appointed Chief of Staff to the Prime Minister, used his maiden speech to commend the UK’s leadership in AI and fintech innovation.
Speaking to an audience of 30 senior technology industry figures at an exclusive Westminster gathering last night, Mr Jones reaffirmed Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s ambition to establish the UK as a global tech superpower. He also urged business leaders to collaborate closely with policymakers to ensure that Britain maintains its position as a driving force in AI and fintech development.
The event, chaired by Tim Flagg, Chief Executive Officer of UKAI, was titled AI for Growth: Unlocking Regional Innovation in AI and FinTech. It featured a series of keynote addresses and panel discussions from prominent industry leaders, including Baroness Thangam Debbonaire, former Shadow Secretary of State for Culture, Media, and Sport and an advisor to UKAI.
Attendee Kenny MacAulay, CEO of Acting Office, a software platform for accounting practices said: “It was encouraging to hear the Chief Secretary to the Prime Minister underlining the government’s commitment to accelerating fintech and AI innovation across the UK in his maiden speech.
