Summer is almost here in Australia, and this is a time when the kids are out of school, which, for many parents, can be a stressful time, as they have to work and don’t have the time to spend with their children. Rather than leaving them to their own devices, we have a few cool ideas on summer activities to engage your kids this summer.

Summer Sports Program – A couple of weeks at an intensive basketball holiday program would really improve their game, plus the organisers make sure they have a great time with many social activities, making new friends and learning new things. If you would like to learn more about the program, a Google search will take you to the organiser’s website, and you can find out what you need to know and even make a booking. Other sports camps include soccer, tennis, golf, cricket, rugby, swimming and archery.
Outdoor Summer Survival Camp – Why not introduce your child to survival skills? An exciting adventure with experienced guides, as the kids camp in the wilderness and learn how to live in a completely natural environment. This might one day save their lives, while it will certainly teach them to respect nature, and they will learn useful skills, such as how to navigate using a compass and start a fire without a lighter, which is a very useful skill to have. Bushcraft is a great thing to get into, and there are experts who run camps to teach children about nature.
Marine Conservation – How about introducing your kids to ocean life? This could spark an interest that leads to a rewarding career, with lectures and field trips that include snorkelling over reefs and observing a wide range of marine species. Of course, swimming would be reinforced and should your child ever be stranded in the water, they would learn survival skills that could save their life. All young people need to learn about how fragile the marine ecosystem really is,and what they learn will stay with them for the rest of their lives.
Archery/Shooting – If you are going to introduce children to weapons, it needs to be done correctly, as a high level of self-discipline and responsibility is required. Who knows? They might like it so much that they take up shooting as a competitive sport! Students learn about weapon maintenance and care, as well as how to aim and shoot safely. Motor Sports – Teenagers would love the opportunity to get into motor sports, which might involve motocross bikes or even sedan cars, learning to drift and control a vehicle. If your son or daughter has an interest in motor sports, why not let them explore that potential?

As you can see, there are many programs in Australia that are designed for school kids, and they definitely build important skills that will be useful in later life.
